About our history In 1989 three friends who had all graduated from Arlington Heights High School a decade earlier, all shared the love of old cars. Mike Cole had owned many 55 - 57 Chevys in high school, but by 1989 he had moved to Corvettes and owned several beautiful 63 to 67 Vettes. Sonny Bransom had his share of muscle cars including a 55 Chevy, a Mustang, a couple of Z28s and by 1989 he had acquired a nice 69 Camaro RS/SS. Darren Houk had a few old cars of various types and in 89 he owned a 71 Dodge Challenger convertible. The three friends started attending local car shows at the Sonic in Crowley and the DQ in Mansfield. Those were about the only shows available at that time. Everyone seemed to be in little groups. The three quickly figured out that there were a few clubs around and from the looks of it FUN came in numbers. So they started looking into the various clubs and many only allowed Vette owners or Camaro owners, others were for MOPAR only. A few of the clubs were for street rods 1947 & older. Several clubs had several pages of do's & don'ts, some wanted to vote to see if cars or owners were worthy of being in the club. All the clubs seemed to be on the other side of town. The trio decided this would take some of the fun out of being in a club. After several late night talks of cars that had been spotted in the daily travels, the decision was made to see if anyone was interested in forming a club on the west side of Fort Worth. The fall of 89 the three started passing out flyers at various car shows and cruise nights asking to call if you wanted info. Enough people responded over the next few months to call a meeting and see what would happen. In January of 1990 the first meeting was held at Spring Creek BBQ on Hwy 80 in West Fort Worth. About 30 people showed up with all different types of cars. The car owners were of all ages. Most everyone was interested in starting a new club. Discussions included what types of events the club might attend together, how much dues should be charged etc. As the night moved on Bill Robinett stepped up and said he had to attend another meeting and insisted someone take his money, making him the first official Westside Classic Cruiser. About the West Side Classic Cruisers The Westside Classic Cruisers serves the Fort Worth area. Regular meetings are held the first Thursday of the month at the TEXAS GRILL, 6550 Camp Bowie Blvd # 140, Fort Worth, TX 76107 Special events are most often on Saturdays and generally (but not always) do not take the place of a regular meeting within a given month. Dues are $20 per year, either for a single person or for joint (husband-wife) membership. Antique car ownership is not required, just a love of old cars.
