We're Celebrating Our 52nd Year of Corvette Fun!
The SJCC is a social organization formed for the purpose of gaining information on, exchanging ideas about, hosting or sponsoring Corvette-oriented activities and events for, and mutual enjoyment of America's Sports Car, The Chevrolet Corvette!
SJCC turned 50 years old in July 2007. The first official club meeting was held in 1957. Back in those days, the membership consisted of a very small group meeting at a restaurant - somewhere around 20 members. SJCC was even into the space program during this period and performed some testing for NASA (to our advantage, of course). Members Zoltan Petrany, John McVeigh and Vincent Collins contacted some NASA people and came up with an idea of an ice-cooled suit (looked like long johns) for the SCCA racers to use. It had a circulating water system that pumped cold water through it with a system to monitor the racer's vital signs. This turned out to be one of the forerunners of some of the clothes used by the astronauts today. By the late 1960s, the Club activity calendar was filled with rallyes, Econo-runs and invitations to participate in other car club's autocrosses.
