The first meeting of The High Plains Chapter of the Studebakers Drivers Club was held on Sunday, February 28th, 1999 at Jo Ann's Restaurant in Wolfforth, TX. The Chapter name of High Plains Studebaker Drivers Club was chosen because it best reflects the geographical location and the area we hope to draw upon for the club's membership. The High Plains Chapter hopes to provide Studebaker enthusiast in NW Texas, Eastern New Mexico and Western Oklahoma with a local Studebaker Drivers Club to meet with and to promote an interest in Studebaker automobiles and to share the history of the Studebaker Company with others. It was decided that a local chapter should be established. The first Chapter Officers were elected and Charter By-Laws were approved and adopted. A short meeting was conducted. President Tommy Matthews presented a video on the 1998 Muscle Car Drag Races. Members were delighted to watch as a 1964 Studebaker Super Lark amazed a crowd of people by blowing away most of the competition. Following the meeting, a photo session in front of the restaurant was held. The process of submitting the necessary paperwork to the National Chapter for granting of an official charter was completed and the Charter was granted.
